Blowst – The Blowjob Ghost: ZAbuJard
Reviewed By Ben Walker
One thing I’ve developed a liking for over the years is mash-ups, whether they’re of the musical, culinary or fiction worlds. So when I saw Blowst sitting there not-so innocently amidst a pile of search results for bizarro fiction, I thought “why not?” I’m a big fan of Chuck Tingle and the more peculiar side of erotica, so this seemed like it would be right up my alley.
ZabuJard delivers something of a rough diamond here, presenting us with a lead character who is sort-of named after the author themselves, trying to have a nice romantic evening with a (living?) sex doll before they encounter the titular ghost and a demanding neighbour. If this short story had its tongue planted any firmer in its cheek, it’d need to visit the orthodontist. Suffice to say it’s a hilarious read, helped along by some outrageous illustrations that seem like they were yanked straight from a collection of royalty-free stock images.
It’s not a story that plays by the rules, and I’d usually come down a bit harsher on an offering like this, but it was just the kind of daft entertainment I needed in what’s been a rather dark year. Dialogue is draaaaaaaaawn out with waaaaaaay too many vowels, onomatopoeia is sprinkled around more liberally than glitter in a Xmas decoration factory, and plenty of absurdity is used to describe both the situation ZabuJard is thrust into, and the many other things they like to thrust themselves into.
The story is also littered with bad spelling, punctuation, grammar, you name it – but none of that matters, because it’s all handled with enough daft aplomb to make it a fun read. Once the blowjob ghost enters the fray I was shaking – not with fear, or out of any kind of erotic anticipation, but with stifle-resistant giggles as the ghost gets ever more desperate for some good old fashioned relief. Whether you get any relief of your own from this depraved slice of weirdness is very much down to how sexy you find ghosts, and I’m not talking the Patrick Swayze kind here, I’m talking full-on clip art blanket and some eyeholes style (and a mouth, obviously).
But hey, I’m not here to judge you and your taste in spirits. Only this story, which I have to say was an unexpected treat. Worth a look if you’re in need of some mirth.
