Yuletide Youtubers
All December long I’m celebrating the festive season by bringing you some video treats. While I spend a lot of time listening to podcasts for my weekly instalments of Sound Bites, I also enjoy watching YouTube videos and wanted to praise some of the channels that always bring me joy. These superstars are Yuletide YouTubers!
As a bonus, I’ll be ending all these posts with a special holiday horror short film. Enjoy!
Ross Jeffery
When certain people start talking about books it becomes clear straight away that they are absolutely smitten with the written word, and that aptly describes Ross Jeffery. His channel has wonderful book reviews for works by both indie and mainstream authors, as well as occasionally discussing his own works of fiction. These are the kind of reviews that make you fall in love with reading all over again, like this one about All of Them to Burn by Beau Johnson.
Poltergeist OD
Mixing obsessions with horror and hardcore rap is Poltergeist OD. This talented musician writes and performs songs inspired by popular horror movies, including Psycho, Pumpkinhead, and Mars Attacks! You can even send in requests for the next horror rap mashup. The channel also includes videos for the musical group Obscene Division, which aren’t movie-based, but still pack a bloody punch. Since my favourite Christmas film is Gremlins, I had to share the song “A New Batch” (NSFW – cursing & violent images)
Cryptids, Crypts & Coffee
Talking all things horror are awesome hosts Lou Yardley and Janine Pipe on Cryptids, Crypts & Coffee. Although this is a relatively new channel, these two gore-loving gals hooked me right away. Each episode features fabulous horror authors as guests, such as Hunter Shea, P.J. Blakey-Novis, and Gemma Amor. To get an idea of what this show is all about, try this one where guest and Team KR member, David Sodergren talks about 90s horror, books, and spiders.
Movie Time!
Not everyone who loves horror also loves Christmas, but maybe they just need their humbug removed, like in this 7-minute short from SiniSisters Productions. (NSFW – cursing & violent images)
“Humbug”
Join me again next Friday as I continue celebrating Yuletide YouTubers!
My podcast recommendations on Sound Bites will resume in January, so please feel free to keep sending me suggestions. If you run a YouTube channel for anything horror related, get in touch too as I’ll be incorporating videos into my Sound Bites posts in the new year. Contact me via the comments section below, or direct messaging on Twitter or Instagram (links below). I can’t promise I’ll enjoy everything you throw my way, but I’ll give everyone a fair shot.
Have a jolly week, everyone!
