Candace Robinson spends her days consumed by words. When she’s not writing stories, she maintains a book review blog. Her life consists of avoiding migraines, admiring Bonsai trees, and living with her husband and daughter in Texas—where it can be forty degrees one day and eighty the next.
Coffee?
KR: Could you tell me a little about yourself please?
I have nothing interesting to say about that. But I will say I try to write books, read to escape the world, and I have a daughter who is now nine, who has read all of the Harry Potter books by the time she was eight. So maybe my kid is more interesting than me!
KR: What do you like to do when not writing?
I am big on nostalgic things. I love watching old horror movies, listening to 80’s and 90’s music. I also don’t watch much TV, but when I do it’s old shows as well!
KR: What is your favourite childhood book?
The Giving Tree! It’s such a depressing story. That boy in the story is really a big turd!
KR: What is your favourite album, and does music play any role in your writing?
The Cure and Kate Bush are my favorite. I don’t have a specific album, but if I feel I need a break during writing, I will turn them on.
KR: Do you have a favourite horror movie/director?
George A. Romero
KR: What are you reading now?
State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury
KR: Who were the authors that inspired you to write?
I wish I could say someone like William Shakespeare or Jane Austen, but I don’t really have anyone. Although, I love reading Sarah J. Maas’s books!
KR: Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer to just see where an idea takes you?
Negative. I’d be outlining and plotting for the rest of my life before anything would get done. I put general ideas into my spiral notebook, and then start typing and see where the story and characters lead me.
KR: What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I haven’t had to do too much research on anything yet… I’ve done maybe an hour tops on a subject. I definitely wouldn’t be able to write a history book!
KR: Describe your usual writing day?
Eat, stair stepper, read, write, look at social media, write, daze off into space, think about what I’m even doing, should I just give up, more writing.
KR: Do you have a favourite story/short that you’ve written (published or not)?
I’ve technically only written three short stories, and I guess my favorite would be the one in Deadman’s Tome Final Contact “A Layer Hidden”
KR: Do you read your book reviews?
Not anymore! That is a disaster waiting to happen.
KR: Any advice for a fledgling author?
Keep writing! Finish your first draft, even if it’s crap! You can’t work with a blank page, but you can work with terrible.
KR: What scares you?
People dying in real life. Oh, and frogs!
KR: E-Book, Paperback or Hardback?
Paperback! Hardback is prettier, but it makes me feel like I’m developing arthritis trying to get it situated into a comfortable position!
KR: Can you tell me about your latest release please?
Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault is being re-released with The Parliament House. It’s much better this time around and is YA. A mixture of urban fantasy, retellings, and some horror.
Some see it… Some don’t… People in the town of Deer Park, Texas are vanishing. There is a strange museum, known as Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault, that appears overnight. Perrie Madeline’s best friend and ex-boyfriend are among the missing. Perrie, along with her friend August, go on a pursuit to search for them in the mysterious museum. Could the elusive Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault have anything to do with their disappearances? A book that intertwines horror with retellings.
KR: What are you working on now?
Right now, I have two manuscripts I am trying to query and hopefully find an agent for. I’m about to write a spin off book for another upcoming book titled, Clouded by Envy, that comes out in February.
KR: You find yourself on a desert island, which three people would you wish to be deserted with you and why?
You can choose…
a) One fictional character from your writing.
Lia Abbie from Bacon Pie because she’s funny. I’d need some entertainment on a deserted island.
b) One fictional character from any other book.
Warner from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi because he’s freaking amazing!
c) One real life person that is not a family member or friend.
James McAvoy. Do I need to say anything else about that?
KR: Thank you very much Candace.

New York Times bestselling author, Wendy Higgins Lia Abbie has the easy life—kicking it back with old school video games, hanging out with her best friend Barnabas, and alternating her living schedule between the apartments of her two dads and her mom. When a showdown between Lia and Kiev lands them in the principal’s office, they’re forced into volunteer work at the cringe-worthy Piggy Palooza Festival, or risk being suspended.
