Kendall Reviews: September

Kendall Reviews took a mini break from reading for most of September. There were many reasons for this, most too mundane to share here with you today. I’d like to thank the people who took the time to mail and ask if all was ok, that really did mean a lot. I was genuinely surprised that my lack of online presence was noticed and even missed. If ever there was a reason to get back turning the pages it was that. Thank You!

September saw the voting end on my chronological read through poll. The results saw Stephen King triumph over Clive Barker with 43% of the vote. My announcement post is here. I couldn’t believe how many Stephen King titles I already had in my collection! Here I was expecting to have to buy loads of his books and it turns out I own over 50 already, with The Stand being the first I need to buy. Whilst I’m talking about Stephen King, September saw the release of his new novel, Sleeping Beauties, written with his son Owen. This was to be the first book I was to read after my break. The book is a weighty beast (my postman seemed delighted to finally leave it with me), and one that I have decided to savour, take my time with. I initially wanted to get an early review out, but I felt I wasn’t doing the story justice by speed reading it. So far Sleeping Beauties is a wonderful piece of work, the slow reveal of the Aurora virus is brilliantly handled. Keep an eye out for my review soon.

Two books I’ve been eagerly waiting for are about to be released, with Joe Hills Strange Weather and Adam Nevill treating us to another of his self published anthologies, Hasty For The Dark. These titles will be read right after Sleeping Beauties and then it’s onto working on my ‘to be read’ pile, which is manageable. It’s a great place to be in as a reviewer/blogger, I’m so grateful to the authors and publishers that have contacted me asking for reviews.

I’ve posted several book excerpts on the blog over the last month or so, these posts have proved to be popular so it’s something I’m more than happy to continue with. In addition to excerpts, I’ll be looking to add news posts, interviews, giveaways and much more. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want something featured on Kendall Reviews.

Thank you for supporting Kendall Reviews,

Gavin.
