Let’s Go Play At the Adams’ has become a sought after horror book because of its reputation.
Recently Steve Stred came into possession of a second copy. This copy is in fantastic condition! The spine is intact, unbroken and the front and back covers are in great shape.
In order to continue to bring joy to the horror community and follow through with the Kendall Reviews mantra of #PromoteHorror, Kendall Reviews and Steve have decided to give this copy away to one lucky person!

Sounds nasty, I want to read it. I think the film I found the scariest recently was Lake Mungo. Really unsettling
Count me in! Scariest book I’ve read recently is Tremblays Cabin At The End Of The World. It was so brutally fantastic. Couldn’t put it down.
This is a difficult question but the prize is too intriguing not to try. If I measure scary by what most haunts my nightmares, it is House of Leaves. If I measure it by what traumatized me as a child it would be There Will Come Soft Rains.
Ooh, I’ve been wanting this book forever! For me, the scariest read was The Stand. I remember reading it when it was first published (yeah, I’m that old) and it is one that has stayed with me as genuinely frightening!
Two movies stick out as being genuinely scary. Not jump scares either. Stuff that stuck with me for days and would resurface for months later. I think, to me, the visuals played a great deal in this, but it was the story that just pulled me in, both deal with self perception and a distortion of that reality, so I guess that’s why. The films: Angel Hear and Mothman Prophecy. In Mothman, a specific scene made the hair on my arm actually stand up, never had that happen from anything other than cold ever… “Chapstick”.
This has been on my TBR for a while so I would love to win it! The scariest book that I’ve read is William Blatty’s The Exorcist.

What book is the scariest? That’s a hard question for me!
Stephen King’s The Shining.
Scariest? Tough one. Have to say On the Track of Bigfoot by Marian T. Place. Read when I was a kid and it terrified me for months. Non-fiction. Nothing has ever come close.
Tremblay’s “A Head Full Of Ghosts” scared the nonsense out of me. That closing scene, and the ambiguity of it all got under my skin.
The Exorcist. I think I saw the movie before I read the book. I remember skipping an afternoon Psych class and driving downtown to Nashville with a friend to see the thing. We split a bottle of wine during the ride and when we were in the theater, a girl a few rows back asked us if she could come sit between us because she was already scared to death just from the posters in the lobby. It’s STILL the scariest movie I’ve seen.
I think The Girl Next Door is probably the scariest thing I ever read. Those monsters truly exist
Scariest? For me, it’s still Ghost Story by Straub. Utterly chilling scenes!

Oh man that’s a tough question! I’ve been reading and watching horror since I was 14 or so, so there’s so many to choose from! I distinctly remember Bag of Bones by Stephen King scaring the crap out of me when I read it. I’m a sucker for a good ghost story!
Man I’d say Hereditary was one of the mist unsettling movies for me. It’s hard for a book but I’d say either Will Haunt You or Sour Candy for me!
Would love to win a copy of this book, going on my tbr list either way. And thanks for the heads up on spoilers in the review, I did some careful skimming. My go to “scariest” movie was Exorcist for years but I think Hereditary tops it now simply with the slow buildup of dread.
As of late, thw scariest book I read has to be The Troop by Nick Cutter. Otherwise Lord of the Flies ranks way up there for me. In the film realm Sinister causes me nausea from all the anxiety. Love it!
The scariest movie I can think of is, Hounds of Love. Unfortunately its not hard to imagine a sadist killer, but the addition of his accomplice really got to me. I couldn’t get myself through the how and why, though there are obvious answers my personal understanding was really tested. If you haven’t seen it there should be trigger warnings for some, for others maybe it’s a cautionary tale. Scared me, still does.
There’s this book on Dracula that I read as a kid that, to this day, I think about because it scared the bejeesus out of me. No idea what the title was, but it explained the links between the vampire myth, Dracula and Vlad the impaler, except kid me thought that meant Dracula was 100% alive and real, and I was terrified. Still haven’t recovered!
Halloween is the first and only movie that ever scared me . I remember the night I went to the theater I was 14 . I jumped and yelled like a little girl when Michael Myers flew across the windshield of the car entering the asylum . I went there by myself and the movie ended about a half hour before my ride was due so I decided to pass the time walking around the closed , darkened store fronts in the plaza that the theater was located in , As I walked I swear I heard footsteps behind me . Then I also began seeing hints of something moving in the shadows . After a couple more minutes I turned around back towards the theater and LIGHTS . And even though I knew I had just freaked myself out because of the movie I’d just seen , I still realized that it was the first time since I was little that I was actually afraid of the dark . And that’s why Halloween is my favorite horror movie , because it was the only one that ever scared me . Even now when I see that scene in the movie it brings me back to my teenage years … The best time of my life !!! I love everything Halloween – the good ones – and even the bad ones . I really dug Rob Zombies interpretations . gonna watch the new one soon . ☮️
I say one of the scariest films is the original Excorcist
The scariest film ever is The Wizard of Oz. I still have nightmares of watching it at my grandmother’s house many years ago. I’ve never read the book. I never will read the book. I assume that is worse.
I loved the Wizard of Oz books. My gram bought me the set so I could go away,immerse myself in that fantastical world away from my own(my parental units were forever telling me to get my nose out of one book or another). There’s a girl named Polychrome, she’s the daughter of the rainbow,I thought that was great. I do recommend that you stay away from The Tinman of Oz. 😏 Do you know that story?
Hard to say what book was actually scary, but I loved the intensity of Stephen Kings ‘Misery’ and that situation would be scary for me
Scariest horror film I’ve ever seen is ‘The Haunted House of Horror’ (1969), simply because it was the *first* proper horror film I ever saw, and it utterly traumatised me like no film has before or since.
I would love to win this book. My scariest read was probably I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. True crime can be terrifying!
28 Days Later. Isolation and abandonment from what you knew in order to define yourself and your humanity. Existential dread while clinging for survival. Scary stuff.
Movie Invasión of the Body Snatchers (Sutherland version). Book my first horror book – pet sematary.
This is tricky, but I’d dash The Exorcist from a religious view but downright horrific. Possum.
The scariest book I’ve ever read was THE GIRL NEXT DOOR by Jack Ketchum, simply because it was based on a true case and it proves that humans are the real monsters
I’d say my scariest pick would be Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. I’ve watched it many times and I still get chills. So atmospheric!
I vividly remember seeing this book in a book shop when I was a kid in the 80s and being terrified by the unnerving dolls head cover. I read it a few years later and it lived up to the hype. I would LOVE to get my hands on a copy again. When I saw this page I thought for a moment that it had been reissued, it needs to be.🙏 Oh and the scariest book I’ve ever read is the haunting Naomi’s Room by Jonathan Aycliffe. Nothing could ever beat it.
House of Sighs by Aaron Dries might be the most unsettling book I’ve read so far.
