{Feature} Kendall Reviews Presents ‘Steve Stred’s Books From The Crypt 10’

Steve Stred’s Books From The Crypt 10

Holy hell. Here we are at number ten already!

Normally, I start this off with a horrible attempt at redoing lyrics from a known song but changing them to try and relate to books.

BUT NO MORE!

That’s right – from this day forward, those are gone. Instead, I’ll attempt a book haiku!

(Clears throat)

Reading brings me joy

As does finding a great book

I smile when sharing.

How was that?

Ok – books from the crypt. Three books. Less than 50 ratings on Goodreads. Which when I look at these books is downright CRIMINAL!

To Wallow in Ash & Other Sorrows – Sam Richards

Originally released October 2019

This collection won a Wonderland Book Award for Best Collection! Come on, people. Read this. The introduction Sam writes here is heartbreaking, as are the stories within, but damn are they GOOD. This collection is tough to read, you’ll need to take your time as you digest each story (and you’ll get a lump in your throat), but what Sam’s done here is phenomenal.

Crowded House & Other Stories – S.J. Budd

Originally released January 2020

S.J. Budd is a sublime writer and this trilogy of stories packaged together really showcases that. The first two stories in this are amazing, but the third story, ‘A Bubble of Friendship Will Keep Us’ plays through my head at least once a week. Just so so good.

Night Service – John F. Leonard

Originally released January 2020

I’m a big fan of Leonard’s writing and his Scaeth Mythos. ‘Night Service’ adds really nicely to that growing world but also works as a fantastic standalone piece of cosmic horror. A terrifying trip on a bus at night becomes a nightmare for some unsuspecting patrons. Great stuff and definitely worth reading, even if you’ve not read anything else from Leonard (which you should!).

There we go! Edition number ten done and dusted!

Until the next!
